Svarta havet ligger delvis i sydöstra Europa och delvis i västra Asien. De länder som har kust mot Svarta havet är Rumänien, Turkiet, Ryssland, Bulgarien, Ukraina och Georgien. Bosporen förbinder det med Medelhavet och Marmarasjön. Det har en yta på 436 400 kvadratkilometer.
