Staden Assuan (Aswan på engelska) ligger på den östra stranden av Nilen, i Egypten.
Staden har ett varierat utbud av sevärdheter, bland vilka vi kan nämna de viktigaste: Nubiska museet, som har mer än 3 000 förhistoriska föremål och föremål från faraonernas tid, den botaniska trädgården med arter från hela världen, Aga Khans mausoleum, S:t Simons kloster, som är från 1100-talet samt den ofullbordade obelisken. Ännu en av de viktigaste attraktionerna i Assuan är Filae-templet som är tillägnat gudinnan Isis.
Det härligaste med staden är emellertid floden, som allt kretsar kring. Man kan göra en båtfärd på den imponerande Nilen i en ”felucca”, den typiska egyptiska båten, och man kan även besöka Elefantön och Kitcheners ö. Det är dessutom en överraskande färgrik plats där man kan shoppa på basarerna och välja bland de typiska föremålen och konsthantverken från trakten.
