Avignon är en fransk stad som ligger på den vänstra stranden av floden Rhône och det var påvlig residensstad på 1300-talet.
Påvepalatset är en enorm gotisk borg, som tillsammans med Avignonbron över Rhône-floden (av vilken det bara finns kvar fyra av de ursprungliga tjugotvå spannen) finns med på UNESCO:s världsarvslista. För närvarande fungerar palatset som museum. Du kan också besöka Musée du Petit Palais, Musée Calvet och ön Barthelasse, stadens gröna lunga som man kommer till med båt.
Avignon ligger en halvtimmes tågresa från Marseille och något mer än två och en halv timmar från Paris.
Här finns ett flertal gågator, så att man göra en trevlig shoppingrunda, bra restauranger, där du inte får missa den goda provensalska gastronomin och Côte du Rhône-vinerna, bra biografer och teatrar. Och kom ihåg att här hålls den berömda festivalen för nutida teater, dans och musik.
Du kan ägna dig åt golf, simning, tennis, cykling och utflykter, till exempel till vinodlingsområdet med sitt mycket pittoreska landskap, eller göra en båttur på Rhône och dess bifloder.
