Riga är den största staden och huvudstad i den baltiska Republiken Lettland. Det är också landets viktigaste kulturella, akademiska, politiska, ekonomiska, kommersiella och industriella centrum. Det ligger vid Östersjökusten i närheten av floden Västra Dvinas (Daugavas) utlopp i Rigabukten.
Rigas gamla stadskärna har utsetts till världsarvsobjekt av UNESCO eftersom den har den mest utsökta samlingen byggnader i Art Nouveau-stil i hela Europa.
Staden har dessutom ett rikt historiskt och arkitektoniskt förflutet som man kan se i de typiska husen och imponerande kyrktornen från medeltiden som lever samman med de eleganta Art Nouveau-byggnaderna.
Bland de viktigaste sevärdheterna i staden vill vi framhålla den lutherska domkyrkan Sankta Maria och St. Peterskyrkan. Du bör inte heller missa det imponerande slottet (1300-talet) som för närvarande är officiellt residens för republikens president.
Riga har också många olika museer. Vi rekommenderar Etnografiska museet, Judiska museet och Järnvägsmuseet.
