Langkawi är en övärld med 99 öar i Andamanhavet, vid Malaysias nordvästra kust. Öarna är en del av delstaten Kedah, som ligger intill Thailands gräns.
Kedah är en ganska liten delstat och mitt emot dess kust ligger Langkawiöarna. Delstaten har i folkmun fått ett lustigt namn ”Malaysias risskål” tack vare de otaliga, vidsträckta risfälten.
Öarna i området, med sina vita sandstränder som skimrar i det tropiska solskenet och en svalkande bris från havet, är några av de vackraste i Sydöstasien, verkligen ett vackert landskap.
Bland de mest intressanta platserna att besöka kan vi nämna Bujangdalen (Lembah Bujang), en vidsträckt historisk plats som ligger i utlöparna av Gunung Jerai. Det är det område i Malaysia som är rikast på arkeologiska fynd, främst från det gamla hinduisk-buddistiska riket som dominerade här redan år 300 e.Kr. Dessutom finns det många museer med historiska samlingar i området.
Langkawi och Kedah är en underbart vacker trakt vars främsta attraktion är dess naturlandskap.
