Madeira är det namn man givit till en ögrupp i Atlanten som tillhör Portugal. Två av dessa öar är bebodda, Madeira och Porto Santo. De andra tre mindre öarna är inte bebodda och de kallas med ett gemensamt namn Desertas. Förutom dessa utgör även ögruppen Islas Salvajes en del av Madeira.
Ön Port Santo är en av de viktigaste turistattraktionerna i området. Den har perfekta naturvillkor och en oklanderlig badstrand med fin sand. En del påstår att vattnet där är terapeutiskt, men hur det nu än är med det är havet vackert djupblått och vattnet mycket varmt, ett verkligt paradis.
Madeira har otaliga parker och trädgårdar som alla har en skönhet utan like. Vi kan bland annat nämna den botaniska trädgården med sina stora planteringar med inhemska och exotiska växter där man bedriver vetenskaplig forskning om hur man bäst bevarar de olika arterna och där det också finns ett naturhistoriskt museum och en medicinalväxtsamling. Där finns likaså trädgårdarna Quinta das Cruzes, Quinta do Palheiro, Quinta da Boa Vista och Quinta Magnolia, m.fl.
