Staden Cuenca är administrativ huvudort i provinsen med samma namn och i den tillhör den autonoma regionen Castilla-La Mancha i Spanien. Staden har upptagits på UNESCO:s världsarvslista och den är en av de städer som aspirerar på att bli europeisk kulturhuvudstad år 2016.
Den främsta sevärdheten är katedralen (som förklarats vara nationalmonument) i gotisk stil och den började byggas på 1200-talet. Vi rekommenderar också ett besök i San Pedro-kyrkan (1600-talet) och i stadshuset (Ayuntamiento) från 1700-talet som med sin barockfasad dessutom utgör den välkomnande arkaden ut mot Plaza Mayor, som är centrum i den gamla stadskärnan. Vi rekommenderar också ett besök i kapellet Virgen de las Angustias och de hängande husen, Casas Colgadas, som byggdes på 1300-talet och där nu ett konstmuseum, Museo de Arte Abstracto, är inhyst. Cuenca har flera olika museer, bland annat Museo Arqueológico, Museo de Electrografía, Museo Diocesano Catedralicio och det vetenskapliga Museo de las Ciencias de Castilla la Mancha.
