Gran Canaria är en av de största öarna i ögruppen Kanarieöarna, som ligger i Atlanten och hör till Spanien. Den centrala huvudorten är Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, som ligger i den norra delen av ön.

Ön har fått tillnamnet Miniatyrkontinenten på grund av sina många olika klimat och varierade livsmiljöer för växter och djur. Många av dessa är skyddade. Det finns totalt 32 skyddade platser, bland vilka vi vill framhålla Parque Rural de Nublo, Jungla Doramas, Barranco Aguaje, Tamdaba och Pino Santo. Den södra delen av ön har den bästa kusten att njuta av och där ligger turistområdet Maspalomas. I Maspalomas utgör sanddynerna en unik attraktion och ett landskap med vackra, vidsträckta stränder. På denna plats kan man inte bara njuta av solen utan även hitta trevliga restauranger, barer och affärscentra. I det här området ligger även Palmitos-parken med massor av olika fågelarter man kan beundra. I mitten av ön visar naturen upp en rad imponerande, vackra berg.

  Get the Lawrence of Arabia feeling right here in Lanzarote and see the island from the back of a camel. We joined a train of camels (so none could do a run for it!) leaving from the south of the island, winding through paths along the vegetation and the Arabic desert like landscape, through the village of Quemada, los Riscos de Los Ajaches, Papagayo and taking in the views of Formentera. • Exploring Lanzarote

  There's so much to see in Lanzarote apart from the beaches. Visit the small town of Uga which is located near to the National Park of Timanfaya, where it's possible to book a camel ride! It's also possible to take a boat over to the small island Hilario, taking in volcanos en route. Move on through the south of the island through Yaiza, and enjoy the panoramic views of Las Salinas del Janubio and Los Hervideros. Finally, check out La Geria (a wine-growing area) where you can visit the vineyards and take part in some wine tasting�
