Edinburgh is one of the most important cities in Scotland and is the capital of the country.
It is located on the banks of the Firth of Forth. The Old and New Town zones of the city were awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 1995. Edinburgh receives the second largest number of tourists in the UK after London.

Other places well worth visiting include the Museum of Scotland; Edinburgh Zoo, which has hundreds of animal species and is undoubtedly one of Britain's largest zoos; the very interesting Royal Botanic Garden; and Scotland's National Aquarium, near Edinburgh, which houses the world's largest underwater tunnel.
