Grasmere is a village in the county of Cumbria, in the northwest of England. It lies within the Lake District National Park, one of Britain's loveliest areas.

Grasmere is in a valley surrounded by hills and near the lake that bears the same name. Its stone houses and lovely views make it a very special place.

It was here that the poet William Wordsworth lived and is now buried. The houses where he lived are open to the public: Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount, and a visit to these would be of great interest.

Grasmere Church dates back to the 13th century. It is on the banks of the River Rothay next to the Wordsworth Daffodil Garden, where you can have your name engraved in stone to form part of the pathway. Another attraction is the famous Sarah Nelson's Gingerbread Shop.

Despite its small size, Grasmere has a range of shops and good restaurants where gingerbread is sure to be on the menu.
