Istanbul är en av de största städerna i Europa och det ligger i den nordvästra regionen av Turkiet som heter Marmara.
Det är den enda stad som delvis ligger i Europa och delvis i Asien, eftersom den ligger på båda sidorna av det sund vi kallar Bosporen och som förbinder Marmarasjön med Svarta havet.

En av de mest populära sevärdheterna i denna sägenomspunna stad är den majestätiska moskén Sultanahmet (Blå moskén) med sina tusentals kakelplattor, unik i världen för sina sex minareter. En annan viktig moské är Hagia Sofia, som också är ett museum om historien från Konstantins tid och den osmanska tiden. En mycket speciell och överraskande plats är stadens cisterner, som är underjordiska vattenreservoarer omgivna av utsmyckade pelare, en mytomspunnen plats som försvaras av Medusaskulpturer.
